Musekiwa, Cosmas and Beauler

This summer has been especially full and rich for Kutsinhira. Musekiwa Chingodza, Cosmas Magaya and Beauler Dyoko, our teachers and friends, have shared music with us in so many ways—teaching mbira, singing, dancing, drumming, marimba, and hosho as well as teaching us about the history and meaning of the songs in Zimbabwean culture. Some lovely summer moments for Kutsinhira folk… dancing and drumming in the summer dusk in the park with Musekiwa… walking on the beach with Cosmas and Beauler at Camp Pagungwa… an inspiring evening of music and spirit with Cosmas and Beauler at Dharmalaya Center with many Kutsinhira folk playing mbira and hosho and dancing. Each time our friends visit, our knowledge and appreciation of the music and of our friendship, deepens.

Cosmas and Beauler have left Eugene and are traveling to various communities and universities. Musekiwa will return to Eugene from his travels, briefly, before going back to Zimbabwe. Fambai zvakanaka to our Zimbabwean friends until next year!
